Mother's Day Gift Idea

My brother, sister and I can never seem to agree on what to get our mom for Mother's Day. However, this year (and I hope she is not reading) thanks to one of my advertisers, the decision was easy.

My mom is a tea drinker and she likes new and different things. Full Bloom Tea has these neat tea blossoms that bloom into what look like flowers when you pour hot water over them. You steep them as you would normal tea leaves and it becomes not only something beautiful to look at, but delicious white tea as well. We plan to get her one of the Mother's Day gift sets that come with a glass teapot, glass teacups and several tea blossoms. I think it will definitely make for an interesting gift that I am sure she will show off to her co-workers.

Showing Love For Matthew Ryan

I know this post certainly doesn't belong on a beauty blog, however I had no choice but to brag a little today.

If any of you watched HOUSE last night, Matthew Ryan's song "Follow The Leader" aired on the show. Matthew Ryan happens to be my husband's cousin who is very talented. You can only imagine my excitement as I sat in bed with a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream (its for the baby) and suddenly hear his voice coming from my TV set. All I could say was, "No way!"

If you don't know who Matthew Ryan is, familiarize yourself (!) because he is not only a talented singer (solo and with Strays Don't Sleep), but he is such a down to earth guy that I feel so lucky to know.

Bo's Art Studio Handbags

How pretty is this purse? I received the Juliet Steel Ribbon handbag from Bo's Art Studio's Opera Collection about 2 months ago. It is made out of stainless steel wire mesh with an irridescent plum ribbon. Depending on the way you look at it in the light, it can appear grey, purple and even hues of blue.

This handbag also comes with a removable silver-toned snake chain, so that you can hang it from your shoulder or carry in your hand. With the exception of the chain, this handbag is constructed entirely out of stainless steel.

Somehow when you think of stainless steel and handbags, they don't seem to mesh, but this handbag is beautiful and doesn't have a hint of an industrial feel to it. Actually it has a level of sophistication and I get complimented on it all of the time.

This handbag is part of the Opera Collection, for which each handbag in the collection is named after a well known opera. There are currently 35 styles in multiple colors and textures. They currently retail for $190-$365.

Bo's Art Handbags are sold at several boutiques nationwide or you can order direct by contacting them directly through their website: www.bosart.net (they also sell belts, bracelets, pendants and necklaces, as well).

Target has recently selected THE SHOE QUEEN by Anna Davis as one of their July “Breakout Books,” which will be featured in Target stores across the country and on their website. The novel, on-sale June 19th, combines the rich historical detail of Philippa Gregory’s novels with the sophisticated glamour of Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic books. THE SHOE QUEEN will appeal to anyone who is obsessed with shoes or lured by the culture of 1920s bohemian Paris—it is romantic historical fiction at its finest.

The Shoe Queen (Paperback June 19, 2007, $14.00) is a sexy and romantic story set against the gilded glamour of 1920s bohemian Paris. Author Anna Davis immerses readers in an age of glitter and excitement, where hemlines rose up to the knee for the first time and gave shoes the chance to be the focal point of an outfit— giving women the chance to obsess over them. In this story, one woman’s obsession with shoes reveals the lengths she is willing to go to satisfy her passions.

Review: Dove Ultimate Clear in Smooth Cashmere

A few weeks ago I was sent Dove's new Ultimate Clear anti-perspirant deodorant in their newest fragrance, Smooth Cashmere. I'm very faithfully a Degree Invisible Anti-Perspirant Deodorant girl in Powder Fresh and was a tad bit nervous to switch to something else when Degree has never let me down, but for the sake of saving beauties everywhere from underarm odor, I decided to give it a shot.

Besides Dove's Ultimate Clear being your typical anti-perspirant deodorant, it is also said to be the only deodorant made with 1/4 "transluscent moisturizers" therefore improving the look and feel of your underarms in just 5 days and also that it truly alleviates white marks. Since deodorants began touting invisible solids, that is all I have ever used. Not just due to not wanting white marks all over my clothes or being afraid to wear a sleeveless shirt in the summer, but due to images that are scarred into my brain for life.

1. My boyfriend when I was 14--he was 17 and had a love for sleeveless t-shirts and unpresadented amounts of deodorant in his Cousin It underarms. I still scream in horror thinking about it.
2. Also in my mid-teens watching a shirtless LL Cool J sing "Mama said knock you out" with deodorant pellets flying from his underarms.

I digress...

From the moment I began using Dove's Ultimate Clear, I was in love. Never did I think I would see the day when I would say that a deodorant made me feel sexy. I can't even believe I said it just now, however, the scent of Smooth Cashmere is jasmine, peach and vanilla and smells divine. I feel like I am wearing perfume and when would I see the day that someone tells me I smell good and asks me the perfume brand...only to have me say, "Its this new deodorant I am wearing"?

Yes, Ultimate Clear lives up to its claims of remaining clear and never leaving any white marks. As for the skin softening ability, that comes from the sunflower seed oil and yes, I did notice my skin was softer and much less itchy after shaving. I compared the ingredients between my usual staple and Dove and found that Dove did not contain talc, corn starch and had less aluminum (Degree 17.8%, Dove 14.8%).

Very good product and I'm afraid my Degree will now have an untimely fate meeting the trash can.

She Unlimited: Bait & Switch Tactics

I had put this whole She Unlimited fiasco far behind me (For reference to what happened you can read here and here). I mean, it happened in December after all and was blogged about in January. So when I received an apology letter about a week or so ago from the CEO, I wondered why they would apologize after all of this time? I knew something was up.

Since the email is marked private, I can just tell you that she claimed to know nothing of how I was treated and apologized for any misconduct and misunderstanding on their part. She went on to give her explanation of events, which honestly, seemed like total BS to me. At the end she offered me free advertising on her site. I ignored the email and went on with life.

Then a few days later, like a debt collector, I get another email from her with the title “2nd letter.” It was the same apology and it actually annoyed me a little. If you apologize, you certainly don’t try to push it on someone with a “2nd letter.” The fact that I didn’t respond should tell you something, and now you just rubbed me the wrong way by sending the apology again with the irritating “2nd letter” title. Again, I had nothing to say, so I did not respond.

Hmm. Two apology emails. This told me that something was going on, because when you apologize–you apologize and be done with it. You don’t try to get pushy about it. I had this gut feeling that there was more to this apology than just “I’m sorry.” This became apparent yesterday morning when the owner of She Unlimited sent me, b5media and Pierce Mattie PR an email with “Defamation & Libel” in the title.

Maybe those big words scare some people, but I am not your ordinary “I get scared by big words” kind of person. The owner attempted to say that it was the 3rd request to remove the posts from my blog (and PMPR's) and all mentions of She Unlimited. Of course, I had to wonder what quakery this was, since I never received such a request, nor did b5media nor did Pierce Mattie PR. They claimed my posts about what happened were slanted, defaming and biased. That’s when I realized that my gut feeling that the apology was pure BS became founded. Basically it was an attempt to try to talk to me and most likely ask me to remove the posts (which I still would’ve said no to) and when I didn’t fall for their 1st or 2nd attempt, they decided they wanted to come in heavy handed.

Well it didn’t work. b5media decided that I did nothing wrong and Steve sees nothing wrong with what he wrote about the incident on the Pierce Mattie PR blog. The post at PMPR remains and the posts at Makeup Minute remain. What saddens me the most is that it is obvious that She Unlimited faked an attempt at taking responsibility for their behavior only to try bait and switch tactics with me to get me to remove my posts. So the short of it was that they were trying to cover up their mistake by having me remove my posts, rather than just accepting the responsibility and moving on—like I had. It saddens me that they didn’t learn from their mistake of how they treated me back in December.

I’m still unsure why after all of this time it was so pertanent that they contact me to remove my posts. Why not send all the apologies and defamation emails back in January when I wrote the posts? Why wait until April 13th? It really makes me wonder what is going on.

My posts are certainly not a threat, they don’t even rank in google, so why apologize and then shove your weight around with scare tactics? Its all a big contradiction. It makes no sense to me.

So here again I will try to put this whole She Unlimited fiasco behind me and focus on better things, like giving birth to my son in a few weeks. My advice to She Unlimited–live and learn and move on.

6.8

When I say 6.8 I don't mean on the rickter scale.

I was told yesterday at my ultrasound appt. that my lovely baby was already 6.8 pounds. If you have never had children, that might not sound so bad...however, I have 4 weeks to go until my due date. 6.8lbs today translates into giving birth to a toddler 4 weeks from now. It means being on the Maury Povich Show along side the woman with the 200lb 2 year old.

Let me add that I am only 5'1". If you could only see me...I look like I inflated the largest beach ball known to man and shoved it under my shirt. The largest beach ball that also happens to weigh 6.8lbs right now in my very short body.

I'm told if I go to term he may be 10lbs. Dear God help me. Someone better give me a medal if I have a 10lb baby. Better yet...Isaac Mizrahi designing me a lovely luxury diaper bag may be even better. Hmm. I wonder if my husband would object to me changing our son's name to Isaac...
