Jenny Packham F/W '11

Jenny Packham was an extremely glamourous show full of bling! Flowing fabrics such as tulle and chiffon were embellished with sequins and beading to create a shimmering, water nymph effect!Slowly becoming a celebrity and red carpet stylist favorite, she showed multiple show-stopping gowns in black, gold and silver.

There were also some separates that were anything but ready to wear! Perfect for the MTV Awards or performing for a packed arena, these pieces had a rock star vibe. Love those leggings!

Study NY F/W '11

Study NY is an eco-friendly, sustainable clothing line by Tara St. James. A 2011 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Winner, her fall collection used locally sourced recycled polyester, hemp, Tencel, organic cotton, and reclaimed wool. Inspired by her mother's closet while growing up in the 80s, the collection had a lot of volume and colors included mustard, orange and burnt red.
A faux classroom was set up int he middle of the room, with models coming out and setting apples on teacher's desk - very cute!
The above skirt was made from 4,000 silk cocoons, the textile made from CPALI, a non-profit initiative to prevent deforestation in Madagascar. Here are all my pictures!

Behnaz Sarafpour F/W '11

Bahnaz Sarafpour was the first designer to represent the US in Target's Go Internal design campaign - I just learned that right now! The designer used Constantin Brancusi's sculptures as inspiration for her fall collection, which was a very neutral black, ivory and grey. The collection was very tailored and featured leather and speckled black and white knit. Most of the pants were slender, and there were some fur accents. The details were certainly the highlight of the presentation! I've just learned that what I thought was lace trim at the bottom of a trumpet skirt and dress was actually woven, rubberized string!! And the matchstick guipure (guipire: a heavy large-patterned decorative lace) detailing on the cocktail frock and long gown are beyond dying for, I think I've been resurrected and died again! Here are all my shots!

Nicholas K F/W '11

I hit the ground running for fashion week this season with a 9am (hey, in my world, that's the crack of dawn!) showing of the latest collection from Nicholas K. Nicholas K was actually founded by the brother-sister team of Christopher and Nicholas Kunz—Nicholas is the sister in case you are confused. While Fasshonaburu has covered the Nicholas K runway show previously, this was the first opportunity yours truly had to catch the show first-hand.

The collection bore a grunge aesthetic that could have easily been accompanied with some early 90s Nirvana and Pearl Jam tracks (but thankfully, the DJ went with some more original choices). Mix those flannels with some hard-lined militaristic touches in black and autumn earth tones, layer on varied textures of fur, leather, velvet, and knits, then top it all off with some kick-ass super platform field boots from Vintage Shoe Company, and you get a tough, urban collection with style to spare.

Most impressive feat? This dude rocking green velvet pants and still looking cooler than most the people in the room.

I need these pants in my life.

Check out the platform field boots. One model had a major trip 'n fall in hers, but I love the look.

This show was my first opportunity to take my fancy digital SLR and rented lens out for a test spin, and I got some fantastic photos! See the whole collection below:

Max Azria F/W '11

Max Azria was very clean and tailored this season. It felt very menswear inspired, with lots of herringbone, tweed and wool pieces, particularly fabulous coats! The color palette starting off very neutral with mushroom greys and some muted olive green added in, but eventually we saw some teal and red pops of color.I adored the chunky knit camel shawl / poncho combo in the above look! Many of the clothes were great for running errands in the city, keeping you chic yet comfortable.
There were some flowier pieces scattered throughout, with reminded me a bit of last season's collection. Overall it was wearable and minimal chic. Here are all my pictures and a video of the final runway walk:

Tory Burch F/W '11

Tory Burch was a slightly surreal experience - there were no chairs set up so it was funny seeing editors and socialites sit on the floor for the show! Luckily the floor was naturally bleacher/step-like so at least everyone could see. The designer summed up her Fall collection as "English country dressing translated through American sportswear." We certainly saw that in her multiple incarnations of tweed: patchworked, frayed, polished, sequins and more!Somehow all that tweed translated into a 70s, boho-esque vibe that fits right into 2011 trends, mixed with ethnic scarf prints, bow neck blouses and chunky heeled loafers. Colors included wine red, orange and dark green.
I saw many palazzo pants, which are loose, very wide leg trousers, something I saw at actually quite a few shows. For the petite I would recommend sticking with flares and skinnies, but it's a great look for the tall, slender women out there :P
Best of all I actually met Kayne West! I wish I had had the guts to ask fora picture together since apparently he was super friendly to fans, but at least I got a shot or two of him. Second best of all was Tory Burch herself live tweeting from the show - my two loves, fashion and social media, together!

Due to the lack of seating and everyone being confused my half of pictures aren't that great, but then the show/presentation ran a second time so later on there are better pictures of the first looks.

Lela Rose F/W '11

The prints and colors at Lela Rose were quite refreshing after so many blacks and neutrals! Inspired by artist Gerhard Richter's technique of scraping paint off the canvas, there were lots of beautiful painterly prints. I saw Rose McGowan, Brittany Snow and possibly other celebs sitting in the front row. One of the best touches was that every giftbag has some biscotti actually made by the designer in her kitchen!Structure was contrasted with some diaphanous materials; lightweight yarn and chiffon flowed on the runway along with pencil skirts and pintucked tops. Some sweaters has interesting folding at the shoulders which resulted in slight points, like above.
The color palette included emerald green, dark blue, and a pale aqua (there was a coat lined in that which possibly killed me as I was in heaven). All the shoes were Lela Rose for Payless, one of the best shoe collaborations I always forget about, many pretty frocks and dip dyed feather embellishment dangling from skirts.
The gowns were quite spectacular, very red carpet ready... anyone in her PR team reading this post and want to dress me for a gala in DC in fall??? Here are all my shots:

Kaelen F/W '11

I was so happy to discover up and coming designer Kaelen last season and was thrilled to be able to attend her second presentation! Inspired by photographer Sam Haskins’ book "Cowboy Kate," I died over the mechanical bull! Alas, no models rode it, that would have been a sight!Colors included mustard, teal, red and moss green. I loved the accordion pleats, which always provide killer swoosh when model walking down the street (you know you do it too!).
"The inspiration came from a western, Victorian realm, the feel of wood-walled saloons. I wanted it to feel like pieces had been passed down through generations of a family, re-worked and made modern," said Kaelen Farncombe.
I was very fond of the slouchy knits for every day, but I wish there was a good reason for me to wear some of the silk painterly print dresses! Here are all my shots:

Charlotte Ronson F/W '11

Charlotte Ronson was the expected girly grunge. Expected sounds bad, but typical Charlotte Ronson is typically fabulous! It was really interesting to see how she balanced her aesthetic with the 70s style that's been invading the runways. There were chunky knits - both oversized and formfitting, some boho floral prints, military details and pops of wine red and mustard. The holey tights were very fun, I plan on trying to replicate the look as some point soon! There was a lot of army green at the beginning of the show, and covetable platform boots!
Belted knits and wide leg pants were also popular. Looks very extremely wearable and easy to meld seamlessly into your current wardrobe!
I really adored this lace top! The end of the collection got a little less sweet and a little more rock and roll, with lots of black and leather. Here are all the pictures:
