Chocolates, roses, stuffed bears, store bought greeting cards, trips to the Mediterranean are all so DONE for Valentine's Day right? Well.. ok, maybe trips to the Mediterranean aren't really that common as V-Day gifts (HINT, HINT to my husband..) but the rest? Which is precisely why I wanted something a little different to celebrate Valentine's Day this year. And nothing against chocolates (love, love, love those Dove Chocolates with the creamy chocolate centers... sooo good) But I like to take things to the next level. Which is why my husband and I went on this master quest for a bottle of "chocolate wine" at around 6 PM on February 14th to celebrate Valentine's Day. That time ought to scream to anyone reading this post that we totally planned all that (we totally didn't..) lol, but being last-minute, eleventh-hour "I just had an idea" spontaneous? That pretty much sums us up.
We were actually three stores in and facing "the time is now whatever :45, the store will be closing in 15 minutes" announcements when Ron discovered a lone bottle of Désirée Chocolate Dessert Wine on the shelf. The description on the back sounded wonderfully delish, but it pales in comparison to the description given on the website:
"It's dark ruby and purple, and the aroma is like creamy cherry chocolate pie. The taste is crazy. It's a candy bar in a bottle with a little alcohol. Pour it over some ice cream and have some fun. 90,000 points!" - Mark Tarbell, Arizona Republic, Feb. 14, 2007Trust me when I say, believe what that quote is selling you. This wine comes in a very attractive, narrow bottle, and the lady who checked us out even commented on it. We payed just under $20 bucks for it and it is officially GONE as of February 16th (two days after we purchased it) What? It was good!
So if you're looking for something a little different, something sweet and chocolatey with delicious fruit notes to enjoy as an after dinner dessert cordial, I'd give this bottle of dessert wine a whirl.
Again, yum.
