Review: Elemis Japanese Camillia Oil

Several weeks back I received some goodies from Time to Spa, one being the Elemis Japanese Camillia Oil. I was most excited to see that this oil could be used for pregnancy massage and for rubbing over this almost 8 month pregnant belly.

What they say:

For many centuries Camellia Oil from Japan has been used for the care of nails, hair, scalp and combination skin. Easily absorbed and rich in plant collagen, it is ideal for preventing stretch marks. Improves elasticity, supports and nourishes all skin conditions. Lightly textured. Provides high levels of hydration to a dry skin. Ideal to use as a body oil. Perfect for pregnancy massage. Helps prevent stretch marks and reduce the formation of scar tissue. Use on the cuticles to strengthen nails. Ideal for baby massage.

The Camillia Oil had no real scent to it, which was fine with me as it didn't interfere with the scents of the other lotions I was wearing on the rest of my body. The oil is nice and thick, but doesn't leave a greasy residue on your skin. It did on the palms of my hands, but it was super easy to wash right off.

I definitely noticed such a big difference in how my belly felt. As this is my 4th child, the stretch marks are already well pronounced. However, they are so itchy and as this little boy continues to grow, they continue to stretch. The Japanese Camillia Oil was so moisturizing and took away all of that itchiness associated with stretch marks.

I know that Camillia Oil is also fabulous for your cuticles and hair, although I haven't personally tried it (my hair is fickle when it comes to putting oil in my hair).

Review: Love N.1 from The Soul Collection

It's not often that I review perfumes. I suppose it's because of my husband's allergy to fragrance and because many times I feel less knowledgable than great perfume-nosed bloggers like The Scented Salamander and Scentzilla. However, when a fellow beauty blogger asked me if I would be willing to sample and review a perfume she handmade herself, of course I was going to say yes.

The perfume I received from Andrea Kane, also known as the blogger behind The Organic Beauty Expert, was Love N.1. This perfume is part of a trio of fragrances from The Soul Collection. The other two fragrances are called Heart N.2 and Soul N.3.

Love N.1 is a handcrafted (by Andrea herself) organic perfume available in a base of organic jojoba oil or organic grape alcohol. It is available in an eau de parfum spray, body oil and whipped body butter.

The fragrance is comprised of: Cocoa Absolute, Pink Lotus, Cassia, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Tuberrose, Rose (Turkish) Vanilla and Blood Orange.

In the bottle and immediately after putting it on my wrists, the Cocoa Absolute is the most noticeable scent. Shortly thereafter I can smell the Sandalwood and Patchouli, giving it that musky-earthy scent. Now about 9 hours later, I can smell a small amount of Vanilla. It really is quite a sensual fragrance. I almost want to say it smells exotic, as well.

The entire line will launch at the W Hotel in San Diego on February 20th from 6-7pm. You can also purchase samples online at AndreaKane.net While on her website, be sure to read more about Andrea, she really is one inspiring woman!

The deathly lure of beauty

Today I came across a news story that made my stomach turn. It was about how Camel cigarettes are revamping their brand to lure in more women smokers. It upset me so much that I wrote a post about it on the Pierce Mattie PR blog. Read my post here: Camel Cigarettes Focuses On Gaining More Women Smokers and please lend your thoughts in the comments. It just blows my mind that marketing tactics like this is truly luring women to death.

Review: Korres Hair and Scalp Scrub

Between my pregnancy hormones wreaking havoc on my skin and hair and this super cold winter weather, my scalp is so dry. This was the first time in my life that I actually had dry skin coming off my scalp into my hair. I was mortified. I tried so many deep conditioners hoping that it would resolve the issue, but unfortunately the outlook for flakeless hair was looking dim.

Then I received a boxload of products from Korres, one being their Hair and Scalp Scrub, an intensive treatment with green silt and corallina oligoelements (no I could not really pronounce that last word either). It's definitely decent in size, 5 ounces, but the green color can make you nervous that you are about to embark on putting something from the swamp in your hair.

The bottle has a pump, so that you don't overdo it with too much product. I have long hair, so I used about 4 pumps to cover my hair root to tip. I probably could've used more, but the directions don't tell you how much should be used.

I loved the scent. It was unique, almost a cross between a fresh clean scent and the natural scent of silt. I rubbed the product into my scalp and rubbed it throughout my hair. It was very light feeling, almost like putting a feather-light conditioner in your hair. I kept it on for 10 minutes and then rinsed it out. It washed right out of my hair, without leaving any residue behind.

The difference was seen and felt when I noticed my scalp was no longer itchy and that the flakiness was considerably less. After a few more uses (once a week is recommended), I noticed that the dryness of my scalp and all of the flakes were gone. I also have color treated hair and didn't notice it to take any toll on my color.

Definitely a product for those who suffer from a dry itchy scalp!

My Life as a Soap Opera

My friends always tell me that if they didn't know me, they wouldn't believe half the stuff that goes on in my life. Let's just take today for example, my husband wakes me up at 5am to tell me that his car was broken into and the credit cards were stolen from his wallet. Yes, my husband left his wallet in the console of his car. While that may seem shocking, we live in a rural, virtually crimeless area. But these weren't just any credit cards, they were the Visa/debit cards to our 2 bank accounts. It took me over an hour to get them cancelled (lots of being transferred around) and we were told that the thieves did indeed make purchases in the 4 short hours they had the cards.

We go to do laundry today and if appears our dryer decided to kick the bucket. We have $0 to buy a new one, so my husband heads to the laundromat and does 12 loads of laundry (yes I have a big family), all of which I need to fold and put away (because that was the deal). Laundry was the last thing I wanted to do today--let alone folding 12 loads. I still have no idea how we are going to afford to buy a new dryer.

Then we find out that the land behind our house, which my development calls a green area, is now going to be developed into a public playground. Let's see, that means I will have a playground about 25 feet from the back of my house. Let's hope no pediphiles are around! My husband and I are so angry that we are thinking of moving (if only we could afford it).

Today was a day when I just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry, but then I took a shower tonight using all these great products I have received over the last several weeks and my sadness seemed to wash down the drain. Well, at least for 20 minutes.

Thanks for letting me vent...now back to the reviews.
